ABOUT THE ARTIST
Chrissie qualified as a technical illustrator in 1978 at Blackpool College of Art and Technology, leading to working as a technical illustrator in Derbyshire.
Skills she gained still have a strong influence in her work today along with her lifetime passion for the natural world. Chrissie came from a family of teachers and artists, including her father who was still painting at the age of 96! In 1987 her first daughter was born so she set up as a free-lance artist enabling her to work from home, giving her the opportunity to able to concentrate on more natural subjects, including producing her own ‘Birds in Derbyshire' calendar.
Her love of nature led her to take a qualification in botanical illustration at Sheffield University where she excelled and gained an award for some of her artwork from the RHS and had work chosen to be published in ‘Wild Flowers of the Peak District’.
Chrissie started to teach evening art classes to adults for the WEA, which fitted in well with family life. In 2001 Chrissie began another career in Sport, Health and Fitness and gained a Cert Ed and Sports degree becoming a full-time sports lecturer at Chesterfield College. At this time her art took a back seat, although often asked to do pet portraits for friends and family and the usual favours which every artist is required to do!
However, art has always been in her heart, therefore she became a part time sports lecturer and produced more paintings, holding exhibitions in the Derbyshire area, at this time her art was influenced by her love of plants and flowers. Chrissie has recently moved to the Isle of Man to be closer to family and pursue her art full time. She feels totally at home here and is strongly influenced and inspired by her beautiful surroundings. She hopes you enjoy her work and assures you there is plenty more to come!
